Video Series Captures Highlights of OHS Chargers' Football Season
In 2017 the Oxford High Chargers stepped up from 5A to 6A, the highest classification in Mississippi high school sports – and the landmark season has been captured on video for posterity.
The Oxford High Sports Productions team followed the inspiration of the award-winning Ole Miss show, “The Season,” in creating “The Season: Oxford Football.” Now in its third year, the video series follows the Chargers as they strive for a chance to play for a state championship in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
Oxford is coming through summer workouts as the first episode of the season rolls. Then, it shifts to the opening game of the season against Vicksburg and the battle of the Little Egg Bowl against Starkville.
In episode 2, Charger fans get introduced to the “Trench Mafia,” a nickname given to the “O” line. “The Mafia is supposed to take care of the family, and our team is our family,” Offensive Line Coach Sam McCorkle said. The episode also features highlights from the Crosstown Classic against Lafayette High School, along with the Pontotoc and the Southaven games.
Episode 3 gives fans an in-depth look at the OHS specialist unit known as “the Bomb Squad.” The Chargers also look to get back on the winning track as they defeat a previously unbeaten Horn Lake team.
The final episode of “The Season: Oxford Football” hasn’t been released yet, but we’ll share it with HottyToddy readers as soon as it comes out.
