Chi Omega Overall Winner
Kappa Alpha Theta at Ole Miss hosted the 16th annual Theta Encore, which benefits the national nonprofit CASA, Wednesday night at the Gertrude C. Ford Center.
CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates and works to place highly trained volunteers on court cases involving the welfare of children.
Through Theta Encore, over $25,000 was raised and over 2,400 lives were saved through the blood drive last week.
Theta Encore is composed of various parts in which sororities compete to win. The competition includes a banner competition, blood drive, monetary donations and a dance competition. The winner of the banner competition was Kappa Kappa Gamma. The winner of the blood drive was Delta Gamma, and the winner of the monetary competition was Alpha Phi. The overall winner was the ladies of Chi Omega with Kappa Kappa Gamma coming in second and Kappa Delta following in third.

Shelton Wittenburg, president of Chi Omega, said, “To say we are excited to have won Theta Encore is an understatement. I am so proud of Kaleigh, Carly and all of the new members who have worked tirelessly on the dance. Theta Encore is an incredible event that allows every chapter to come together to support CASA and Theta.”
This year, a new component was added to the competition to include fraternities. The top two fraternities that donated the most blood competed in a dance off while the judges calculated the scores of the sorority dances. This year, the top two fraternities were Beta Theta Pi and Phi Kappa Psi. The crowd nominated Phi Kappa Psi the winner. Both fraternities put on a memorable show that had every audience member laughing.
“This year, we were able to raise more money than we ever have for our philanthropy CASA,” said Holly Horton, philanthropy chair of Kappa Alpha Theta. “We owe all our success to the participation of all the sororities and fraternities and could have not done it without them.”
