The long wait for basketball action in the Pavilion at Ole Miss is over as the women’s basketball team takes the court tonight against Mississippi College in exhibition play. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
Ole Miss returns eight letter winners from last season, including the top two scorers, junior Madinah Muhammed at 13 points per game and senior Shandricka Sessoms at 12.7 points per game.
The conference released the Preseason All-SEC-Teams on Wednesday, and Sessom was named to the second team.
Ole Miss coach Matt Insell adds two transfer players, junior guards Marlee Hatcher and Barbara Johnson and four freshmen, guard Chyna Nixon, guard Milicia Reid, forward Day’Neshia Baks and forward Promise Taylor into the mix this season.
Reid will miss the 2017-2018 season due to injury.
This year marks the fifth season under the direction of Matt Insell and his staff. In four seasons under Insell, the Rebels have returned to the postseason in 2015 and 2017 with trips to the WNIT. Ole Miss has also notched four Top 25 wins — including the first Top 10 victory since 2010 with a win over No. 9 Kentucky in 2016. Insell and his staff have also compiled three-straight, Top 25 recruiting classes.
The regular season will be underway Nov. 10 as they take the court against Northwestern State at 5 p.m.
