Ready, Set, Glow: Oxford Band Glow Run 5K Set for Saturday
Are you looking for a fun way to light up your Saturday night? The Band of Oxford High is having its annual 5k Glow Run at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4 at Oxford High School to benefit the OHS Band Program.
The Glow Run is not the average competitive race as it seeks to make the race fun for people at all fitness levels. Racers go all out by wearing different types of glow-in-the-dark clothes, accessories and body paint. Kids, parents, teenagers, grandparents and even dogs can dress up in their best glow-in-the-dark attire to run, walk or leisurely enjoy the 3.1-mile course.
Get your glow on before the race at 4 p.m. with an energetic deejay from Sullivan Productions. The deejay brings strobe lights, black lights and a pump-up playlist that can get anyone excited for the race.
Over the past several years, the Glow Run has been a contributing factor in the creation of four new performing groups at Oxford High School. The groups that continue to benefit from the Glow Run include the High School Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Concert Percussion Ensemble, High School Winter Guard, Cadet Winter Guard and Indoor Winds Group.
“Funds raised from this fun event will offer support for our students in so many ways,” said Jessica Roebuck, the band teacher for Oxford High School. “These groups compete throughout Mississippi, and two of the groups are traveling to Winter Guard International competitions in Georgia and Ohio.”
Glow Race is an exciting, eventful spin on your traditional 5k race. Go to www.oxfordsd.org/2017GlowRun and pay only $25 to experience a glow-in-the-dark party like you have never seen before.
