The Ole Miss volleyball team returns to action tonight at the Gillom Sports Center as they host the Missouri Tigers. The match will start at 7 p.m.
Ole Miss (14-9, 5-5 SEC) enters the contest after their first ever win against Texas A&M on Sunday. Sophomore Emily Stroup posted her sixth double-double of the season with 13 kills and a career-high 22 digs against the Aggies.
“Emily Stroup had an incredible match for us, 22 digs and hit for a very high percentage with 13 kills,” said Ole Miss head coach Steven McRoberts.
Missouri rolls into Oxford for tonight’s match with a 12-9 overall, 5-3 in the SEC. They have lost two straight SEC matches, including a 3-0 sweep at home to Georgia. The Tigers are led by a middle blocker, Alyssa Munlyn. Munlyn leads the team and ranks sixth in the SEC with a .372 hitting percentage. She also ranks second in the SEC with 1.53 blocks per set. As a team, Mizzou ranks second in the league in blocking with 2.88 blocks per set.
“They have two dynamic middles and a dynamic right side. When they get in system they are really good across the front row,” McRoberts said. “Defense has been the key to us being in every match, and that was one where they were in system so much and every hitter was always available. It just made it impossible for us.”
The Tigers lead the all-time series at 12-5, but the Rebels own the series with matches played in Oxford, 3-2. Earlier this month, Missouri swept Ole Miss 3-0 in Columbia.
