The Ole Miss Rebels’ offense shined in the 57-35 victory against Vanderbilt, the first game back inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in over a month.
Ole Miss (3-3, 1-2) took an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter when sophomore quarterback Shea Patterson connected with wide receiver A.J. Brown for a 58-yard touchdown reception.
Vanderbilt would then answer with two rushing touchdowns of their own by running back Ralph Webb. But the Commodores’ touchdown lead would not last long.
In the second quarter, the Rebels reeled off a total of 28 points. Four different Ole Miss players reached pay dirt before going into the locker room with a score of 35-21 over Vandy.
In a game in which the Rebel offense was firing on all cylinders, the defense made its mark, too. No. 38 Marquis Haynes recovered a safety in the end zone at the 14:02 mark in the third quarter, pushing the lead to 37-21.
Ole Miss tacked on another touchdown and a field goal before the game went into the final 15 minutes.
The Landshark defense did not allow Vanderbilt to score in the second half until the fourth quarter. The Commodores added 14 points to their score before the clock hit all zeroes.
Ole Miss finished the game with 603 yards of total offense, while the defense gave up 417 yards.
Patterson finished the day with 351 yards passing, four touchdowns throws and a rushing TD.
Next week, Ole Miss plays host to LSU with kickoff set for 6:15 p.m.
