OHS Travels to Horn Lake to Take on the Eagles
This week, the Oxford Chargers travel away from Bobby Holcomb Field to face the Horn Lake Eagles. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Oxford (5-3, 1-2) picked up its first 6A region victory Thursday night as they defeated DeSoto Central 21-7. The Chargers jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter and did not let up there. Coach Chris Cutcliffe’s defense played lights out until the fourth quarter when they gave up their first touchdown.
“It was big to get our first win in the region,” Cutcliffe said. “We know we have a big hole to climb out of starting 0-2 and trying to make our way back into the playoffs. It was great to get that win under our belts over DeSoto Central. From here on out, each game is bigger than the last one.”
This season, the Chargers replaced four starters on the offensive line, and the new group has stepped up to the challenge.
“I think they have done a nice job,” Cutcliffe said. “I think that Coach Sam McCorkle does an outstanding job with our ‘O’ line. I think those guys have bonded together really close as a unit. They have gotten better and better as the year has gone on. We have had some struggles there like any position group does, but those guys fight through it and have done some really nice things for us.”
Horn Lake (6-0, 3-0) comes in after a 28-2 win at Columbus last week. The Eagles are scoring on average of over 41 points per game. This season they have outscored their opponents 248-73.
“Horn Lake has got some really great players,” Cutcliffe said. “Nakobe Dean outside linebacker is an outstanding player. Horn Lake’s quarterback is an outstanding player along with other guys. I think that they are very, very talented. I think that coach does a really nice job up there. I think that they are really well coached. You are not undefeated up there if you are not playing quality football.”
Fans can tune in to 95.5 on the radio as host Don Brooks will have all of the action.
