Oxford Welcomes Southaven Tonight To Start District Play
The Oxford Chargers return to action tonight as they play host to the Southaven Chargers at Bobby Holcomb Field. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
Oxford (4-1) comes into this game, after another dominating defense show last week against Pontotoc. The Chargers defeated the Warriors 17-0, drawing their undefeated run to a close.
“The thing that I am most pleased with is we have gotten better each week,” Oxford coach Chris Cutcliffe said. “It’s one of the things we make a big deal about this time of year before we get to our district schedule.”
On the season, Oxford is averaging 156.4 rushing yards per game. In the air, the high-octane offense gains an average of 160.4 yards per game. During the first five games of the season, Oxford scores on average 20.4 points per game.
Southaven heads down I-55 with a 1-3 record on the season. Southaven dropped a tightly contested game against Germantown last Friday by a final score of 27-21. The team has had trouble on the road this season with their only win coming at home.
This will be the first district 6A game for Oxford this season. The Chargers have faced 6A teams in the past, but tonight’s game will be the first for Oxford as a member of their new classification.
Last season, these two teams faced off with Oxford winning the game 26-20 in Southaven.
