This weekend, the Ole Miss volleyball team steps into conference play against Auburn and Alabama. After a long and successful week last week.
On Monday, coach Steven McRoberts met with the local media to discuss last week’s matches. The Rebels blanked Northern Colorado 3-0 on Tuesday afternoon. Ole Miss was then supposed to go to Orlando, but after Hurricane Irma, the Rebels had to make other plans. South Alabama was supposed to travel to Miami, but their game was canceled, and the Jaguars were able to come to Oxford for two matches.
McRoberts also discussed an odd situation as their team bus ran into the team’s plane which delayed their travel plans.
South Alabama took the first match on Friday night then on Saturday; the Rebels got back on track with a win before the SEC slate begins to heat up.
Coming into the start of conference play the Rebels have a 9-4 record overall.
“We are going into the first week of SEC play and will face a very good Auburn team on Friday, McRoberts said. “They have played a really tough schedule and done well in that. It is a tough matchup for us, and we will turn around and play Alabama Sunday, who I believe is 10-2 at this point. We feel confident with our team that if we can steady out and play consistently that we can be competitive and beat anyone in the league, but we have yet to show that we can even stay consistent within the same match. We have a great group of young ladies that are working really hard. They have a great attitude and want to get better. The culture, in my opinion, has changed immensely from the first three years to this year and we are feeling really good as we go into SEC play.”
