OHS Teacher Charged With Sexual Battery After Alleged Relationship With Student
Last week, a report regarding misconduct by a teacher at Oxford High School surfaced. Today, James Reidy, a physics teacher at OHS was charged with sexual battery by a person having authority over the victim. Reidy has been fired from his position following the charges.
Lafayette County Sheriff Chief Investigator Alan Wilburn told the Oxford Eagle that OPD had received a call to the Department of Human Services hotline that provided a tip that there was an inappropriate relationship between a student and a teacher. The alleged acts took place outside of Lafayette County.
Wilburn said that the victim is cooperating with the DA’s office, and the relationship between her and Reidy took place for over a year.
Reidy’s bond was set at $25,000 and the case will go before the grand jury in February 2018.
Reidy had taught at OHS for 26 years.
