Ole Miss Soccer Hosts Two Matches Over The Weekend
The Ole Miss Rebel soccer team returns to action this weekend hosting two matches at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium. On Friday night, the Rebels welcome in High Pointe for a game time slated for 7 p.m.
Ole Miss (3-0-1) enters the weekend coming off of a draw against Big Ten foe Michigan and blanking Lamar 3-0 on Sunday. Coach Matt Mott’s squad is led this season by two of the nation’s top five goal scorers in junior CeCe Kizer (T-2nd) and freshman Channing Foster (T-4th). Kizer has already matched her season total from 2016, while Foster is only one of six freshmen with four goals thus far.
“Tough team for us on Friday night, we have High Point, very well coached team, very organized and very tough to break down defensively, and then we play Southern Miss who is currently undefeated on Sunday, so another in-state rivalry game that we are going to want to be prepared for,” Mott said.
Led by ninth year head coach Marty Beall, the Panthers take a 2-2 record into Friday’s contest. High Point opened with two-straight on the road, topping Appalachian State in the opener, before falling 1-0 at Georgia. Last weekend, the club defeated Ohio 1-0, before dropping a 3-0 decision at No. 3 South Carolina. Winners of at least 12 games in each of the last three seasons, the Panthers advanced to their conference tournament championship game a year ago after going 13-6-2 overall. Thus far, the club has scored just two goals including one each from Maggie Gruber and Paige Rombach. Alex Hank has played 270 of the minutes in goal thus far with a 2-1 record, making 17 stops with a 1.00 goals allowed average.
This evening when the Rebels and the Panthers meet on the pitch it will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.
The Rebels will return to action on Sunday as they welcome in the Golden Eagles from Southern Mississippi at 6 p.m.
