John Cofield's Oxford & Ole Miss: Christman's Guitar Studio
Christmans Guitar Studio ~ Byron Ellis, “When I lived in Anchorage eight years ago, I had dinner one evening in a bar-restaurant where there was a solo guitar player performing. The guy was really good. He was a blues/rock player who played finger style as well as with a pick. During a break, I had a conversation with him. As a child, he had taken his first guitar lessons from Mr. Christman while living in Oxford. Small world! His father had been an ROTC instructor at Ole Miss. His name is Rick Brooks, and stage name is ‘AK Rick.'”
John Cofield is a HottyToddy.com writer and one of Oxford’s leading folk historians. He is the son of renowned university photographer, Jack Cofield. His grandfather, J.R. “Colonel” Cofield, was William Faulkner’s personal photographer and for decades was the Ole Miss yearbook photographer. Cofield attended Ole Miss as well.
Stay tuned for more information on Cofield’s forthcoming book: Oxford, Mississippi ~ The Cofield Collection — a pictorial history book with John’s writing on the history to go along with the photos.
