Oxford Police Forming Law Enforcement Explorer Post For Area Youth
The Oxford Police Department is taking an extra step to encourage young people in the area to consider law enforcement careers by forming a Law Enforcement Explorer Post.
“Exploring exists to teach important life and career skills to young people from all backgrounds through career based experiences and mentorship,” Officer Rusty Rasberry, who is heading up the program for the Oxford Police Department, said.
Officer Rasberry is a former Deputy Chief of the U. S. Probation Service for the Northern District of Mississippi and is a long time Boy Scout Leader now serving as an Oxford Police officer.
Parents and youth are encouraged to attend an informational meeting on Thursday, August 31, at 6:30 p.m. at the Oxford Police Department training building at 715 Molly Barr Road.
“Law Enforcement Exploring will provide hands-on, interactive experiences in the field of criminal justice and law enforcement. The Oxford Police Explorer Post will emphasize positive character development, life skills, citizenship and career opportunities,” Office Rasberry added.
The Law Enforcement Explorer Post is open to young men and women from the ages of 14 to 20. The Explorer Post is under the umbrella of the Boy Scouts of America, but membership in the Boy Scouts is not a part of the program. “Any youth 14-21 interested in law enforcement is welcome,” Rasberry said.
Additional information is available from the Oxford Police Department Law Enforcement Explorer Post at 662-232-2400.
