addition to setting records on the court, the Ole Miss volleyball team also achieved success in the classroom last year.

For the third time in program history and first since 2008, the Rebels earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2016-17 season.
Ole Miss was one of 145 Division I and seven SEC schools to receive the award, given annually. The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
2016-17 Rebel Volleyball Academic Highlights
• Team cumulative GPA of 3.38
• Spring GPA of 3.37 was highest in seven years
• 13 members on the SEC Academic Honor Roll
• Aubrey Edie named CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American, received an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and was awarded a Taylor Medal by the University of Mississippi
• 80 percent of team earned a 3.00 GPA or higher in the spring
• Tied for the most 3.00’s in school history
“Our program has high expectations for our players academically,” head coach Steven McRoberts said. “I’m very proud of the young ladies on our team, as they have met those expectations. It is because of their hard work that they achieved such a high team GPA. I am thankful for the help of Jon Nance, our academic coordinator, and all of the Fed Ex academic staff for keeping our players on task and organized. This team set the bar high that the rest of our future teams will try to match and exceed.”
The AVCA Team Academic Award, celebrating its 25th year, is the single largest award offered by quantity of schools, players and coaches honored. Since the 2000-2001 season, the number of recipients have increased every single year but two, while amassing a 532 team increase over the span of the last decade. Since the award’s inception in 1993, the amount of award winners has increased from 62 to its current number of 822.
The Rebels will begin fall camp Aug. 7 and open the season Aug. 25 in the newly-renovated Gillom Center.
