Watch: Ole Miss Players & Coaches Ready To Move Forward
After Matt Luke was introduced as the head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels, DC Wesley McGriff stepped to the podium. McGriff was recently promoted to associate head coach, as the staff shake-up continues following Hugh Freeze’s resignation. Upon arrival, McGriff has brought a new energy and accountability to the Ole Miss defense, and he spoke about the state of the defense and how they are ready to hit the ground running when camp starts on August 2.
“Get ready to write a new story, don’t worry about last year.”
OL Javon Patterson spoke about the resiliency of this team and while it may be a difficult time for the Rebels off-the-field, they are looking forward to the opportunity to put their pads on and get back to work. Having worked closely with Coach Luke on the offensive line, Patterson knows that Luke’s passion will truly shine in his new role.
“We keep getting hit with stones, and we keep getting back up.”
QB Shea Patterson’s future has been continually discussed since the news of Freeze’s resignation broke, but the sophomore QB talked his leadership role throughout the Rebels busy off-season.
“I love this university, I love my teammates. With camp beginning August 2, all I want to do is go out there and play with the brothers that I love.”
DL Breeland Speaks is excited about what Luke’s passion and McGriff’s energy will bring to the Rebels on both sides of the ball. Speaks is eager for the season to start and put a rest to the outside noise around the program.
“Guys are ready to get on the gridiron and we can let everybody else have what we’ve been taking.”
