ESPN's Bill Polian Says Kelly Is Broncos' Most Talented QB
On ESPN’s NFL Live, former Colts GM Bill Polian weighed in on the Denver Broncos’ quarterback situation. The competition for the starting job is expected to be between Paxton Lynch, in his second year out of Memphis, and Trevor Siemian, who took the majority of the snaps for the Broncos last season. When asked who he favors in the race, Polian chose a third option, former Rebel quarterback Chad Kelly.
“In the bullpen is Chad Kelly, who’s more talented than either of these two but has a lot of growing up to do,” Polian said.
“So you’re saying Chad Kelly is better than both of these guys?” Dianna Russini asked.
“Yes, talent wise,” Polian responded.
While Polian clearly believes Kelly is talented, the conversation was prefaced with the statement about Kelly’s maturity. Off-the-field questions followed Kelly throughout his college career at both Clemson and Ole Miss. Kelly also faces the challenge of coming of two separate injuries; the torn ACL that ended his senior season and a wrist injury which cut his pro day short.
Kelly started 22 games for Ole Miss and helped propel the Rebels to a Sugar Bowl victory in his first season. In his Rebel career, Kelly completed just shy of 64 percent of his passes while throwing for 6,800 yards and 50 touchdowns. Kelly was selected as the final pick of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Broncos.
