53 Ole Miss Athletes On First Year Academic Honor Roll

Fifty-three Ole Miss student-athletes competing for the Rebels for the first time in 2016-17 were named to the SEC First Year Honor Roll it was announced by SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey on Wednesday. In total, 902 student-athletes from SEC institutions were recognized.

The Rebel football team had five members earn the honor including quarterback Shea Patterson while the NCAA Super Regional softball team was represented by seven players including SEC All-Freshman selection Morgan Bruce.
A combined 10 athletes represented the Ole Miss track and field teams. Janeah Stewart, who placed top 10 in all three of her events at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon headlined for the women’s team while NCAA Indoor Distance Medley Relay Champion Nick DeRay earned a spot for the men’s team. The baseball team had 11 members on the team including Oxford natives, Jason Barber, Thomas Dillard, Grae Kessinger and Houston Roth.
The 2016-17 First-Year Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2016-17 academic calendar. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or a cumulative 3.00 GPA at the nominating institution.
