John Cofield's Oxford & Ole Miss: "Blind Jim Ivy"
OXFORD, MISSISSIPPI
Another shot Granddad took of Mr. James “Blind Jim” Ivy. UM Archives doesn’t have these hard copies or digitals I’ve found, but I intend to give them to them one of these days. Jim sold candy and peanuts in the Lyceum. The honor system was used and Granddad said that Jim always had more than he’d sold in the cup at every business day’s end. Here’s a ‘gag’ shot of a student trying to swipe candy without Jim hearing him.

His grandfather, J.R. “Colonel” Cofield, was William Faulkner’s personal photographer and for decades was the Ole Miss yearbook photographer. Cofield attended Ole Miss as well.
