A Full Garage – Oxford's Bubba Mize And His 600+ Car Collection
Along with his wife and children, Bubba Mize’s passion for cars has led to an impressive collection of vintage vehicles. Mize and his family sat down with HottyToddy.com for a look at his collection.
When it comes to counting cars, Bubba Mize has his work cut-out for him. With around 600 cars to his name, he has to build garages all across town to keep them in.
Around 20-25 of his vehicles are rare, restored show cars he likes to enter in contests. He has Dodge Challengers, Cameros, Road Runners, Mustangs, Chargers, and Chives from 1955, 1956 and 1957, just to name a few. When it comes to cars his wife, Allyson Mize, says it best.
“He likes them all.”
“We have all kinds of makes,” Bubba Mize, fourth generation owner of Mize Electric and Plumbing, said. “I have been collecting cars since I was 13 years old. I was born with it in my blood.”
Bubba collects cars as a hobby and enjoys both buying them fully restored and customizing them himself. Stand out pieces of his collection include a 55 Chive, previously owned by Jerry Lee Lewis, and a 71 Cuba, owned by the late Patrick Swayze.
Another heavy hitter on Bubba’s motor team is a tricked-out monster truck. The beast of a truck was customized by friends of Mize at 662 Off-Road and Tint in Batesville.
“It’s great feeling bigger than everyone else,” Bubba said. “It’s the feeling of power, and it just looks awesome.”
While the cars in the garage are the main attraction, Bubba also likes to collect signs and tags to put in his garage. His favorite tag, given to him by his cousin, is a rare 1951 tag with a 000-000 number.
To help get ideas for his projects, Bubba like to enter some of his cars into shows. At the car shows, bubba’s cars are not the only things that draw the crowds. Allyson, who has been singing since she was seven years old, has sung the national anthem at the Danchuck Tri-Five Nationals.
“I like talking with all the car folks,” Allyson said. “It’s like a big family.”
While it may sound like Bubba holds all the cars, his wife and kids also have a few of their own to show off.
A 69′ Cobra Jet Mustang 428 was given to Allyson as an anniversary gift. The Mize Children, Kruse and Trustin, also have some pretty impressive wheels even if they can’t get behind the wheel just yet.
Trustin, age 8, has a Trans-Am, and his favorite thing about cars is going fast. Kruse, age 6, has three Dodge Chargers in yellow, black, and rusty, and his favorite part about cars is burning them out.
Currently, Bubba is working on his 57 Chevy Gasser, green and gold, that he and friends built from the ground up. The car, which he named Ga$$hoper, has a shifter in the back for his two sons to play with while he drives.
It is also branded with a personal message, B/138. The B stands for Bubba and 138 are the last three digits of the character John Milner’s car in “American Graffiti,” one of Bubba’s favorite movies.
“I just like old cars,” Bubba said. “I like to go to car shows to get ideas on ways to twink my own.
