Tropical Storm Cindy is continuing to move toward the Gulf Coast. While Mississippi isn’t in the storm’s direct path, it is expected to cause heavy rainfall throughout the state. Rainfall is expected to reach up to 15 inches according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

The agency’s website urges those who live in low-lying areas to develop an evacuation plan just in the area begins to flood. MEMA also recommends that those in areas that may be affected focus on preparing for the rain rather than the other elements of the storm.
“Don’t focus on the “cone” of the storm as the heavy rain effects will be worse well to the east.”
Despite not being in the storm’s direct path, The Weather Channel has placed the Mississippi Gulf Coast under a tropical storm warning meaning conditions are possible within a 36-hour window.

The Weather Channel has issued a warning about the severity fo the rainfall brought on by the storm.
“Parts of southeast Louisiana, southern Alabama, southern Mississippi and the Florida Panhandle are not in the forecast path but are expected to see a substantial amount of rain, which could cause life-threatening flash flooding.”
Tornado Watches have been issued for areas along the Gulf Coast as the storm approaches.

Oxford will see a considerable amount of rain as well, as will the rest of North Mississippi as the rain moves toward Arkansas and Tennessee.
