Let’s be real, orientation leaders at Ole Miss rock. The very first time you see them they are dancing and performing up on stage. They are extremely enthusiastic and friendly! All they want to do is make your first experience at Ole Miss fun. Orientation leaders really are the incoming freshman’s personal “cheerleaders.”

The very first evening of orientation you get hit with the most intimidating question you face as an incoming freshman: “Have you decided on a college major?” A moment of serious panic sets in. What if you chose the wrong major? What if you haven’t decided? What if? You just give and realize at that very moment, you feel exactly like Jackie.

Orientation is an all day process. There are so many things that incoming freshman and their parents have to be introduced to. With only two days to fit everything you need to know into a schedule, orientation is seminar after seminar. By 6:00 p.m. on the first day you are exhausted and all you really want to do is go eat and go to sleep. However, we all know how moms can be, so if there is a scheduled event that evening, 9 out of 10 times you are going to that seminar regardless… incoming freshman can definitely relate to Steven.

“Confused” is actually an understatement. On your last day of orientation, you are required to go into myOleMiss and create your very first fall class schedule. You have no idea what classes to take, which professors are good and bad, or how to even look up the course number. But to makes matters even worse, every single class section you have tried to register for is full or waitlisted. The stress level is high during those first registration moments, but luckily, you get better with practice over the next four years.
