Eight SEC Teams Chase Trip To Omaha As NCAA Tournament Begins
Calling all college baseball fans, the Road to Omaha kicks off in a few hours as 64 teams battle to be the last team standing in Omaha.
Ole Miss’ (32-25) season ended in the first round of the SEC Tournament against the Auburn Tigers by a score of 5-4. As a result of their early exit, Ole Miss was left out of the 64-team field. This is the first time since 2011 that Ole Miss has failed to qualify for the NCAA tournament.
Regionals begin today, and Rebel fans can follow along as fellow SEC teams chase the chance to chance to raise the National Championship trophy at T.D. Ameritrade Park. The SEC has a total eight teams in the field this year, with two national seeds and two regional host sites.
LSU and Florida both got national seeds and will play at home for the first two rounds. Arkansas and Kentucky both received regional host sites.
Auburn, Mississippi State, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt will begin their run on the road.
When the opening ceremonies open in Omaha, a possible total of seven SEC teams could be in attendance. Two SEC teams could potentially meet in the Super Regionals as Mississippi State could face the LSU Tigers if they are able to win the Hattiesburg Regional.
Another highly anticipated Super Regional matchup has two bluegrass teams meeting on the diamond in Kentucky versus Louisville.
Sit back, relax and enjoy this weekend’s wall to wall coverage of the NCAA Tournament across ESPN’s lineup.
