Fire Hydrant Under Control After Single-Car Accident On Ole Miss Campus
Last night a driver struck a fire hydrant on the Ole Miss Campus on Rebel Drive, next to the Alpha Phi house construction site. No one was injured in the single-car accident, but water continued to flow until emergency services workers were able to shut it off.
While the scene may have looked bad, emergency management coordinator, Barbara Russo, noted that it wasn’t anything to worry about.
“It took about an hour to contain the water main break and close it, nothing to close the road,” Russo said. “It was just a routine traffic accident where the kid clipped the hydrant, and we had to shut it off and get it controlled. Moving a high volume of water was the issue, but it’s nothing to lose sleep over.”
The hydrant is back up, and the water is controlled. It does not appear that any additional work needs to be done to restore the hydrant.
