Student-Athlete Development Awards Kuhl Tutor Scholarship
Former Ole Miss baseball player, John Gatlin, became the first Kuhl Tutor Scholarship recipient it was announced by the Ole Miss FedEx Student-Athlete Development staff. The Kuhl Tutor Scholarship is awarded by former Rebel tutor and Ole Miss graduate, Melissa Kuhl.
The Kuhl Tutor Scholar Award Program selects the most influential and inspiring FedEx Student-Athlete Success Center tutor each year to receive a one (1) year tuition/scholarship to use at any college in the University of Mississippi system.
“It is with great pleasure that the Kuhl Tutor Scholar Endowment award is being made available to the FedEx Student-Athlete Success Center tutors,” said Kuhl. “The first recipients, John and Emily, embrace and represent the quintessential characteristics of a tutor and it is with great pleasure that I offer it to them. I look forward to learning more about them.”
Gatlin, who is pursuing his Masters degree in Integrated Marketing communications and has been serving as a tutor for the last two years, is grateful for the scholarship.
“It’s very rewarding physically and mentally,” said Gatlin. “I feel honored to be awarded this scholarship by such a well-run, professional establishment. FedEx has been so important and useful to me in my college career and it continues to do so with this scholarship. I appreciate Ms. Kuhl and her generosity to the program as well as how this scholarship will aid in me reaching my educational goals.”
In addition, FedEx tutor Emily Raspo, who played softball at Ole Miss, was awarded a book scholarship for the 2017-18 academic year.
Raspo, who has been working as a tutor at the FedEx for two years, is grateful to be awarded the book scholarship.
“I am thankful for the job opportunity FedEx has given me the past two years,” said Raspo. “I have been able to work with and help my peers, and in turn, I have grown myself. A huge thank you to Ms. Kuhl for providing me with this scholarship. It could not have come at a better time as I am preparing for the rigors of my senior year.”
