No. 21 Rebels Earn No. 8 Seed for SEC Tournament
No. 21 Ole Miss softball has earned the No. 8 seed for the upcoming SEC Tournament, and will face No. 9 seed Mississippi State Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. CT in Knoxville, Tennessee.
The Rebels finished the 2017 regular season at 10-14 in SEC action, just one win off tying the school record for conference wins. Ole Miss clinched its final series at Missouri this weekend, before falling in extras in game three.
A tiebreaker scenario gave the Rebels the No. 8 seed as they and Mississippi State finished with identical league records. The two teams did not meet in SEC play, but did face off in a midweek tilt back in March when Ole Miss won a 2-0 contest.
The Rebels are making their sixth appearance in the SEC Tournament and third-straight after picking up their first-ever SEC Tournament win a year ago over No. 8 seeded Georgia. The No. 8 seed is the highest for Ole Miss in school history since the tournament switched two a 12-team format back in 2015. It will mark the first-ever meeting between the two rivals in the postseason event.
First pitch in the first round game is set for 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday from Sherri Parker Lee Stadium. The game will be televised live on SEC Network. The winner will advance to play No. 1 seed Florida in second round play on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
