Kappa Delta "Shamrocks" The Night Away In Spite Of Rain
Thursday evening, Kappa Delta sorority at Ole Miss hosted their philanthropy event, Shamrock. Each Kappa Delta chapter nation-wide hosts Shamrock annually to raise money for Prevent Child Abuse America.
Each chapter gets to create a Shamrock event that is unique to their member and campus. Ole Miss KD’s event is called “Shamrock-N-Roll” and takes on a ’50s theme. This year, the chapter did a raffle for three cash prizes, hosted a swing dance competition and opened the Kappa Delta house to serve french-fries and milkshakes to ticket holders.
The swing dance competition on the Grove stage ended just as the rain began to fall, and then participants headed to the house for fries and shakes. Never failing to have a smile on her face, Marguerite Marquez, vice president of community service, said she feared the weather might affect the event turnout.
“It is easy to get caught up in minor details, like rain and logistics, but at the end of the day, remembering the real reason for Shamrock made everything more than worth it,” she said.
After a successful day, the Alpha Mu chapter was pleased to announce that they raised $50,255.
Eighty percent of all proceeds supports local PCAA efforts through the Oxford Exchange Club Family Center, while the remaining 20 percent supports PCAA’s national efforts.
Shamrock’s executive donors included NewSouth Neurospine, Sigma Nu Fraternity, Kingry Orthodontics, Align Body and Mind, Oxford Pre-Op and Imaging Center.
