Ole Miss Captains Colby Bortles And Tate Blackman Suspended By Mike Bianco
While Ole Miss may have ended their four-game losing streak last night with a 1-0 victory over Georgia State, the win wasn’t the biggest storyline.
When the lineup was released yesterday, two notable names were missing: captains 3B Colby Bortles and 2B Tate Blackman. After playing every game this season, their absence seemed to be a day of rest. It wasn’t until a statement was released by head coach Mike Bianco that the reason became clear.
“Tate Blackman and Colby Bortles have been suspended until further notice for not meeting the standards of the Ole Miss baseball program,” the statement reads, as first reported by the Oxford Eagle.
Both Bortles and Blackman were voted as preseason All-SEC by the coaches in the conference. On a team with 28 underclassmen, leadership is perhaps the most important quality to have, and to see both captains suspended isn’t a good look for Ole Miss Baseball.
Bianco did not provide a specific reason for the suspension. HottyToddy.com will update this story as more information becomes available.
