Visit Oxford Unveils 22nd Double Decker Arts Festival Artwork, Announces Music Lineup
Tuesday morning, Double Decker coordinators held a press conference to thank sponsors, officially announce the music lineup and reveal the poster of the 22nd Double Decker Arts Festival.
This year’s Double Decker artwork was created by local artist and retired graphic artist, Pam Locke, who moved to Oxford in 2003 from Greenville, Mississippi. Her artistic style is considered to be tight and illustrative, and she primarily paints in watercolor and acrylic.
“The Double Decker Festival is such an important part of Oxford and is a showcase for the wonderful art that is produced in the region surrounding Oxford,” Locke said. “I entered the contest because I wanted to be a part of that celebration.”
She said, “I’ve been a shopper, and I have been a participant with the Guild and always had an idea of what I thought the poster would look like; but, [I] never got around to actually making it come to life. Finally this year, I was able to take the time and get the idea concise to how I wanted it to look.”
Director of Visit Oxford, Mary Allyn Hedges, was more than pleased with the chosen artwork for the poster and the 2017 music lineup, but she was even more excited about the turnout of today’s press conference.
“A lot of the attendees were our sponsors, which we couldn’t put on our festival without our loyal sponsors. We were really pleased with the turnout,” Hedges said. “I think that the artwork is so unique, and it speaks to what the festival is all about with the arts and the lineup. It’s a really great and diverse lineup. We’ve got some really great local artists playing and some really great Blues musicians.”
