Northwest Workforce And Nursing Division Provide IV Therapy Certification Classes
Northwest Mississippi Community College’s Division of Nursing and Workforce Development are teaming up again in 2017 to offer training that will give licensed practical nurses (LPNs) better job opportunities.
According to Dr. Denise Bynum, division director of Nursing, Northwest will again offer the clinical portion of the IV (Intravenous) Therapy Certification Course. LPNs who need to be IV Therapy certified will be able to take the 40-hour theory course online through the Mississippi LPN Association and will be able to come to Northwest for two days to complete the clinical portion necessary for certification. The course is based on the curriculum set forth by the Mississippi Board of Nursing and will lead to initial certification to practice in the expanded role of IV therapy.
Spots are still open for the next online IV Certification theory course, which will begin in mid-February. In order to reserve a spot, contact Linda Shows, director of Mississippi LPN Association at linda.shows@mslpn.org or sign up at mslpn.org.
The clinical portion will be held in the Northwest Simulation Lab on April 8 and 9, if minimum enrollment is reached for the online course.
“We are excited to continue this relationship with the Northwest Nursing Division and the Mississippi LPN Association. We relish this opportunity to provide training and to enhance these career pathways in our community,” said Forrest Bryan, Workforce Development coordinator.
This course will be for initial certification. The LPN needing continuing education hours for recertification can contact Dr. Bynum at (662) 562-3498 or visit the Mississippi LPN Association website.
