Thornberry, the nation’s leader in stroke average during the fall, continued to shine against a field that included 27 of Golfstat’s top-100 players by firing a 5-under 67 in the opening round. He claimed one of the tournament’s four eagles Friday on the 560-yard par-5 hole No. 3.
Thornberry joins a list of champions that range from current and future PGA Tour stars DJ Trahan, Gregg Jones, Nicholas Thompson, Luke List, Kyle Stanley, Patrick Reed and John Peterson.
