Coach Insell And The Rebels Travel To Lexington To Take On The Wildcats
The Ole Miss Women’s Basketball team takes to the hardwood again on Thursday night as they travel to Lexington, Kentucky, to tangle with the Wildcats. Game time is slated for 6 p.m.
Ole Miss (13-7, 2-5 SEC) enters the game after dropping the first home matchup of the season against Alabama on Sunday by a score of 65-57. Madinah Muhammad led Ole Miss with 18 points while Taylor Manuel added 13 points for her second consecutive game in double figures. Shandricka Sessom added 11 points and a team-best six rebounds and five steals.
Sessom leads Ole Miss scoring efforts with 12.6 points per game and 12.2 points per game against SEC foes.
Ole Miss is looking for its first road win of the season on Thursday night. Ole Miss enters the matchup with Kentucky with a 0-6 SEC road record but does have a neutral site win over Wisconsin at the UNLV Lady Rebel Round-Up. A road win would snap a 12-game SEC road winless streak for the Rebels.
Kentucky comes into Thursday’s game with a 14-6, 5-2 SEC record and winner of four straight games after defeating Auburn 64-60 on the road Sunday. Makayla Epps leads a quartet in double figures with 16.4 points per game.
Evelyn Akhator is averaging a double-double with 14.9 points per game and 10.5 rebounds per game while Taylor Murray and Maci Morris are contributing 12.7 and 11.5 points per game, respectively. On the season, Kentucky is averaging 69.9 points per game and grabbing 37.7 rebounds per game.
This will be the 39th meeting between the teams with Ole Miss holding a 22-16 advantage. The Rebels have won the last two meetings between the teams although, they are searching for their first win in Lexington since a 67-65 overtime win in 2007.
