‘The Oaks On East Jackson’ Looks To Add Luxury To Oxford Housing Boom
Jackson Avenue East has become a new hotspot for development, as the Oxford housing boom continues and The Oaks on East Jackson will soon become the next luxury condos available. The location on 1740 Jackson Ave. E is currently a run-down apartment complex, but it will soon be demolished to make way for the six condos that will make up The Oaks.
The development is being handled by sisters Michele West Stuber and Debby West, who grew up in Oxford. When deciding on what to do with the land, the pair decided to keep things local and create a unique development. The realtor in charge of the property, Tim Phillips, is excited to see Stuber and West make the commitment to Oxford by doing this on their own.
“They decided to do it on their own instead of putting it up for sale and letting someone from out of town… because that’s what’s happening to so much of the land around the Square,” Philips said. “It’s Oxonians doing something on their own trying to better the community because you see so many people coming in from out of town doing it, but these are people that want to give back to the university and the community.”
Located just two blocks away from the Historic Oxford Square, The Oaks will feature six condos in total, two of which will be 3-bedroom and 3-1/2 bathrooms, and the other four will be 2-bedroom and 2-1/2 bathrooms. The condos will feature unique architectural designs featuring high-end appliances, tile floors, French doors and more that aim to set The Oaks apart from any other luxury condo development around town.
The Oaks gets its name from the 14 different oak trees that provide the canopy over the land. Consisting of Red, White and Post Oak trees, West and Stuber wanted to make these trees a part of the development rather than tearing them down to make room for more space.
“We are committed to preserving the trees and the picturesque natural setting where The Oaks condos are being built,” Stuber said.
Phillips is thankful both as a realtor and as an Oxford citizen that the trees will remain for The Oaks development.
“As an Oxonian, and it’s nice to see a local family trying to preserve the integrity of their land and do something different for Oxford by preserving the tree canopy,” Phillips said.
Development of The Oaks is set to begin shortly and is projected to be completed in December 2017.
