Cochran Statement On President Trump's First Day
U.S. Senator Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) today released the following statement on the inauguration of President Donald J. Trump and his first day in office:
“I congratulate President Trump for accepting the challenge and honor of leading our great nation. I look forward to working with him and his administration to strengthen national security and grow the economy.
“I am also pleased the Senate has confirmed President Trump’s nominees to lead the departments of Defense and Homeland Security. These highly-qualified leaders are well-suited to serve our nation. It is important that the Senate act in a timely manner to consider and confirm the remainder of the President’s cabinet.”
The Senate on Friday evening confirmed retired General James Mattis as Secretary of Defense (98-1), retired General John Kelly as Secretary of Homeland Security (88-11).
Cochran, chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee and its Subcommittee on Defense, supported confirmation of both nominees.
