5th Annual Junior Auxiliary Charity Ball: Food, Fun, Music and Philanthropy
The Junior Auxiliary of Oxford (JA) is a dedicated group of women who volunteer their time and efforts to benefit the lives of children in the Oxford, Lafayette and University communities. Each year the JA holds only one fundraiser, their annual Charity Ball, which funds the organization for the entire calendar year and allows them to sponsor 13 projects for children.
An example of the unique opportunities that the JA provides for local children is Camp Sunshine. Each summer the JA hosts Camp Sunshine; an overnight camp for 4th-grade girls who have never or rarely had a camp experience. These children participate in swimming, exercise, games, arts and crafts and much more. The JA covers all fees for this camp and even provides food for the children.
“It is an all day camp one Friday, usually in June,” said Tori White, web chairman for the JA. “Last year we had 60 girls, and most of them had never been to camp before, and some of them will never be able to have another camp experience. That’s why this is so important. We are able to provide opportunities for kids that they wouldn’t have any other way.”
This Saturday, Jan. 21, the JA will host the fifth annual Junior Auxiliary Charity Ball at the Powerhouse from 7:30 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 and covers entrance to the event and food from Party Waitin’ to Happen. Attendees are then able to purchase a bottomless beer cup for $20 or a bottomless wine cup for $30.
The Charity Ball will also feature a live auction, silent auction, raffle and live music by Smiley and the Young Guns. Silent auction items include highly sought after items such as The Main Event Tailgating package for 20, dinner for four at the ravine, one night stay at Delta Cotton Co. Flats, and a Tori Burch gift card.
“We encourage everyone to come out or just buy a ticket if you cannot come,” White said. “This is the only fundraising event that the Junior Auxiliary has and we are investing in the youth, in our kids.”
Tickets to the Charity Ball may be purchased from a JA member, at Belles & Beaus, Olive Juice Gifts or Ross Family Dental.
