Jay Hughes: The Bills Have Dropped
My Filed and Co-Sponsored Bills
The following is a list of bills that I have either authored of co-sponsored, as of today, the third day of the session. Getting any passed without appropriate contributions, donations, lobbyists, political favors, etc, is like Frosty the Snowman making his run through the greenhouse. Nevertheless, I shall preserve in what I believe to be for the good of the people:
No # yet: EMS & TRAUMA Funding – Restore operating funds swept away last year into general fund to cover deficit.
No # yet: TRANSPARENCY: Make and preserve for public audio record of all committee meetings.
No # yet: TERM LIMITS: Two consecutive terms (8 Years) for any one statewide position, or a member of the house or senate.
No # yet: TRANSPARENCY: ALL emails on public email addresses of elected Members of the Executive or Legislative Branch of government shall be preserved and made available by proper request of the public and press. Same for calendars dealing with performance of duties of statewide elected officials.
HB154: MAEP: Amend to award performance points and classroom dollars to districts showing the greatest level of academic growth and proficiency for at-risk students.
HB228, HB249, HB 303: ELECTIONS: Permit early voting.
HB305: PARTY PRIMARIES: Abolish Them! First one over 50% wins. If not, top two have runoff. Will save $Millions of taxpayer dollars.
HB310: ROADS & BRIDGES: IN municipalities with fewer than 10,000 people, the municipalities gets an additional 1.5% of their total sales tax collections back to use specifically for roads and bridges.
HB9: FAIR PAY ACT: Equal pay for men and women performing identical jobs.
HB244: LOCAL ELECTIONS: Allow local municipalities to hold and election and decide if they want to have local offices be non-partisan, and save the money of primaries and run-offs.
BILLS TO BE INTRODUCED SOON:
1. Mandatory Kindergarten (and funding for it); and,
2. Tax deductible donations to public K-12 schools, with ability to designate specific use (like classroom supplies for 3rd grade, or band instruments).
