Per Jason La Canfora of CBSSports, sources say that the Jacksonville Jaguars will reach out to several college coaches about their opening, and Freeze’s name was specifically mentioned. The Jaguars fired head coach Gus Bradley after a 2-11 start to the season this year.
Freeze also isn’t the first coach to be linked to an NFL job, as Dan Mullen and Kevin Sumlin have long been linked to various NFL openings. And it seems like every so often there will be a rumor about Nick Saban possibly returning to the NFL.
Freeze’s Rebels went 5-7 this season and missed a bowl game for the first time in his tenure as head coach in Oxford. The last SEC head coach to leave a head coaching job for the NFL was Saban. He lasted just two years before returning to the NFL.
Freeze has never coached in the NFL before, even as an assistant.
