Christmas in Cotton Plant: Nation’s Largest Inflatable Display
Located just north of New Albany in the community of Cotton Plant on Highway 15, Steve and Christy Paul, along with their two sons, have created the nation’s largest Christmas inflatable display. The twelve-acre walking path is named ‘Christmas in Cotton Plant.’
In 2005, Christy Paul bought the family’s first inflatable, a Grinch. Steve Paul noticed that families drove by their house to see the inflatable and that driving to see Christmas decorations was a popular holiday hobby. The Paul family then decided to turn their land into a true Christmas display. Since then, their collection has grown to include more than 500 inflatables, over 300,000 lights, five projections screens, and live actors, including church choirs and Santa himself.
‘Christmas in Cotton Plant’ is free to everyone; however, donations are encouraged to help offset the 300 percent increase in electricity usage that the inflatables and lights require during the month of December. Guests are also welcome to visit the Elf Café to purchase hot chocolate, homemade sugar cookies, candy and specialty ‘Christmas in Cotton Plant’ ornaments.
On the walking paths, guests will notice a trend of neighborhoods with the inflatables. There is a United States themed section that includes a Christmas tree topped with a United States flag, a bald eagle inflatable, a Statue of Liberty inflatable and more. There is also a religious neighborhood that features choirs, a Jesus inflatable and an audio reading of the Christmas story.
Perhaps the most unique neighborhood is the Snowflake Disc Jockey. This is a large area that has a light display synchronized to classic rock and party songs with a Christmas twist. Guest will be treated to songs such as “Joy Shack” and “Manger Zone,” which are set to the tunes of the popular “Love Shack” by B-52 and “Danger Zone” by Kenny Loggins.
Star Wars, Peanuts, Santa, Snowmen and Disney Princess are just a few of the other popular characters that are featured at ‘Christmas in Cotton Plant.’ There are inflatable and light displays of all kinds that will thrill everyone in the family.
‘Christmas in Cotton Plant’ will be open to the public through Christmas Day and will close until next year at 9 p.m. on Dec. 25.
With upwards of 2,000 visitors to Paul family’s display every night, the news of Christmas in Cotton Plant has spread across the southeast. The popularity and vastness of this collection caught the attention of the TLC network four years ago and the Paul family was featured on an episode of My Crazy Obsession.
