EatingOxford: See What’s Opening Soon Around Oxford!
With all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it’s been harder than usual to keep tabs on the Oxford restaurant scene, but I’ve managed to piece together a quick cheat sheet of restaurants that are currently under renovation and others that are opening soon.
Happy holidays!
Under Renovation
Second Line (reopening in January): A note was found on the door of Square-based Second Line earlier this month stating, “Dear Oxford, Unfortunately it is our duty to inform you that we will be closed from December to mid-January, so as to both remodel our design and revamp our menu.”
El Milagro (reopening in January): Fans of this Jackson Avenue hotspot for karaoke and margaritas might be wondering why the parking lot has been empty and the lights are out. Not to fear. The owners of El Milagro report on Facebook that the restaurant is undergoing renovations and will be back better than ever in January 2017.
Opening Soon
Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen: The lights are on and the pavement is poured at the new Popeyes on Jackson Avenue. Looks like the doors will open any day on this popular Louisiana-style chicken chain, which, up until now, only had an outpost on highway 7.
Chipotle: After years of begging, from both locals and Ole Miss quarterbacks alike, Chipotle will begin serving up its popular fast casual Mexican fare within days. Staff is training and the line is being prepped at the new store on Jackson Avenue near Applebee’s.
Coyote Blues (opening in January): According to owner, Jerry Corley, Coyote Blues, a fresh-Mexican grill with a Louisiana soul, will open in the Galleria II Shopping Center in early January.
Chicken Salad Chick (opening in spring): According to owner, Will Clayton, an outpost of Chicken Salad Chick, which invites guests to create dishes with a variety of chicken salad options, will open in the Galleria II Shopping Center in late February to mid March.
Five Guys Burgers & Fries (opening in spring): Located next door to Chipotle on Jackson Avenue, Five Guys Burgers & Fries is currently hiring staff, but just commencing the buildout process. Looks like it will be an early spring opening for this burger-and-fry joint.
Sonic (opening in spring): The outer structure is up and we can see the Sonic near CVS on Jackson Avenue taking shape, but it will likely still be a couple of months before anyone is able to pull up to the ordering box and drive out with a Sonic Blast and tots. Plan for early spring on this one.
