Why travel or pay for a place that holds no sentimental value and needs to be set up? Oxford has some of the most beautiful scenic spots in Mississippi, that need very little alteration to become a picture perfect spot for that big “Yes!” moment.

Enjoying Nature
Lamar Park
The air is cooler, the days are shorter and the trees are putting on their full fall colors. Whether you love it for the dogs, the kids, the scenery or the memories, Lamar Park is ideal for your proposal. Drop down to one knee on the pier overlooking the pond or set up something special in one of the large grassy areas. Plan a picnic or take a walk before sitting down to ask the big question. Do keep in mind that this is a public, popular park, and there is no guarantee you’ll be alone.
Whirlpool Trails
Biking, running or walking the dog, this scenic set of trails provides the perfect setting for that special surprise. Pick from a number of branching trails or set off on the main path. This romantic walk through the woods is sure to captivate, and with no motor vehicles allowed on the trail, you can be sure your time together won’t be interrupted. Just try to pick a time and day when the trail isn’t crowded, and you’ve got it in the bag.
Sardis Overlook
This spot is rarely visited and will ensure maximum privacy for your big moment. Located at the end of a picturesque drive down a gravel road off of Old College Hill Road, this overlook is out of the way and will blow your minds. From the observation deck, you’ll have a spectacular view of Sardis Lake and the surrounding bushland. You may even get the chance to see some wildlife. Four-wheelers can sometimes be heard in the distance, but between the rustling wind, bird songs and the ecstatic “Yes!” you’ll barely notice.
Out of the Ordinary
Ole Miss Golf Course
You might not expect it, but try going out to the Ole Miss Golf Course. The rolling hills, changing leaves and various fountains and ponds provide a number of charming views that would make for an excellent photo shoot. Whether you like to golf or just want to rent a golf cart and cruise, the course provides a calm and quiet atmosphere for popping the question.
The High Point of Oxford
Not to be confused with the apartment complex just down the road, this spot has the best view of the sunset anywhere in town. Drive down Thacker Road, and you’ll come to a spot where you can see for miles to the west. The setting sun will leave you breathless, and you’ll love how the colors make your ring sparkle.

Rowan Oak
You can never go wrong in such a beautiful place surrounded by so much history and peace. From the towering cedars to the picturesque white columns, Faulkner’s house makes a perfect frame for an unforgettable picture. Choose from several spots on the grounds, from the barn to the gazebo to the front porch to the patio. There are dozens of picture-perfect places to propose.
The Square
Take a romantic carriage ride or enjoy a fantastic dinner with a view from one of the many balconies around The Square. Treat your bookworm to Square Books and put the ring in a favorite book. Try to relax on the second-floor terrace before asking for your love’s hand. Hit two birds with one stone at the city courthouse or gaze down South Lamar from a bench in front of City Hall. Then, celebrate your future together with drinks and a dance.
Paris-Yates Chapel/Phi Mu Fountain
Every true Ole Miss fan knows where to go for a good time. Why not add your engagement to the list? Beautifully landscaped and close to every Rebel’s heart, the chapel and fountain can’t be beaten when you’re going for romantic. Go right up to the altar and kneel before the stunning stained glass windows, or go outside to the terrace overlooking the courtyard. Sit beside the fountain and propose to the noise of the bubbling water. Then follow up your big “Yes!” moment with a fervent “Hotty Toddy!”
