6 Tips To Get You Through Finals Week
Finals week is officially upon us, so it’s time to make that last ditch effort to reach the end of the semester. So whether you’ve been gearing up for this dreaded week for a while or if it sneaked up on you, follow these 6 tips, and together we’ll make it to the finish line.
- Be wise about where you chose to take study breaks.
There is a reason why your favorite bar on the square is offering a 3 for one special this week, don’t be the one to fall in that trap. Take a break by playing with animals at the humane society, or get a little exercise walking on the whirlpool trails.
- Change up study locations .
You will drive yourself crazy sitting in the same place all week, a change of scenery is refreshing. J.D. Williams can only hold so many people, especially during finals week. Try some other locations like your sorority/fraternity house, the Graduate, Square Books, HighPoint Coffee, Cups, or other buildings on campus with study halls. Just try to stay away from studying in your bed, we all know how that goes.
- Delete your social media apps
If you have the willpower, this may be one of the most helpful study tips. Social media is the biggest distraction. No matter how much you want to post a “finals had me like” snapchat, or a spontaneous “throwback Thursday” Instagram these are some of the most common forms of procrastination. It’s just one week, you can do it and you’ll be glad you did. You don’t want to find yourself creeping on your friend’s sisters’ boyfriends’ moms’ dog on Facebook.
- Sleep is Crucial.
Staying up all night trying to memorize everything you have learned in a semester is probably not going to go over well. You’re not going to remember what you studied if you’re running on no sleep. Focus on important material that you are most familiar with, and then get some rest. Quality over Quantity.
- Dress for Success
Take a little time before your exam on your appearance. Take a shower, put on one of your favorite outfits. Girls put on a little makeup, and fix your hair. Guys you don’t have to put on a suit, but put on a nice pair of khakis and a collared shirt. Feeling confident in your appearance will contribute to confidence in exam performance. It’s a proven fact!
- Don’t give up.
You are not the only one who had been thinking about clicking the “Drop to zero hours button” on your MyOleMiss account. We have all been there. Finals are rough, but don’t let this week get the best of you. Just study hard, keep a positive mindset, and do your best. And remember, here at Ole Miss we are blessed with “Freshman Forgiveness”. It’s okay if you don’t make the grade you need in a class, second chances are a thing here.
