Published

Last night, Evan Engram was awarded the C-Spire Conerly Trophy at the Clarksdale Country Club.

The Conerly Trophy has been awarded to the best football player in the state of Mississippi since 1996. Engram becomes the first Rebel to win the coveted award since Bo Wallace won in 2012, and the first ever TE to win the award. Past winners of the award include Eli Manning, Dak Prescott, Patrick Willis and Deuce McAllister. The nominees for this year’s award were the following:

Alcorn State University – LB Darien Anderson

Belhaven University – QB Hunter McEachern

Delta State University – RB Chris Robinson

Jackson State University – DE Javancy Jones

Millsaps College – DL Alex Foust

Mississippi College – WR Marcel Newsome

Mississippi State University – WR Fred Ross

Mississippi Valley State University – QB Austin Bray

University of Mississippi – TE Evan Engram

University of Southern Mississippi – RB Ito Smith

Engram beat out finalists Ito Smith, Fred Ross, and Javancy Jones which were announced at the trophy presentation last night.

The 6-3 senior TE from Powder Springs, GA finished the season with 65 catches 926 yards and 8 touchdowns for the Rebels to round out a record-breaking career. Engram led the nation in yards by a TE and was 2nd in catches and touchdowns, yet was left out off of the John Mackey Award Finalist list last week.

Engram, a former walk-on, is the Rebels all-time leading tight end in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. Engram will leave Ole Miss with 162 catches for 2,320 yards and 15 touchdowns and is widely recognized as one of the top TEs in the upcoming NFL Draft. Engram recently accepted an invitation to the annual Senior Bowl in January.
