In 2013, an egg bowl tradition started between the ROTC programs of Ole Miss and Mississippi State. The army ROTC of each school came together with the idea of starting the annual Egg Bowl Run. ROTC members run the game-day ball a total of 100 miles from the visiting school to the home school of where the game is being played that year. Monday, November 24, the ball was ran from Starkville to Oxford. Mississippi State met Ole Miss halfway, at 50 miles, in Calhoun City to hand-off the ball to Ole Miss who ran the ball home to Oxford.
ROTC members volunteer to participate in the run for the not only the trill of the rivalry, but also to raise money for the Ole Miss Army ROTC Fund. Donations go toward program support, university/alumni outreach, scholarships, as well as academic and leadership awards. Those who donate a certain amount of money receive incentives.

The Egg Bowl Run is special because it unifies two universities who have one of the most hyped up rivalries in the country. This year Ole Miss cadet, Jonathan Dotson, is the project coordinator of the run.
“My favorite part about the run is when we meet the bulldogs in Calhoun City where ROTC from both schools run the football around the Calhoun City square together,” Dotson said.
This year the Egg Bowl Run is dedicated to Jay Cleveland, an Ole Miss cadet who passed away November 1.
