Saiz Earns SEC Player of the Week Honors

Ole Miss senior Sebastian Saiz has been named the SEC Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
A 6-9 forward from Madrid, Spain, Saiz averaged 19.7 points and 12.3 rebounds a game last week as Ole Miss posted a perfect 3-0 record. He recorded his 11th career double-double with a career-high 26 points and 12 rebounds in the Rebels’ win over Saint Joseph’s to advance to the Paradise Jam championship game Sunday. Saiz knocked down 9 of 13 from the field and was 6 of 8 from the line against Saint Joe’s and hauled in 11 points and added six rebounds in Ole Miss’ come-from-behind win over Oral Roberts in the opening round of the Paradise Jam.
Saiz posted a double-double with 22 points and a career-high 19 rebounds in Ole Miss’ thrilling comeback win over UMass last week. The Rebels ended the game on a 11-0 run capped by Saiz’s game-winning put back with 3.3 seconds left to secure the win. He finished a single rebound shy of becoming the first Rebel since Walter Actwood in 1975 to post a 20-point, 20-rebound game. His 19 rebounds were the most by a Rebel since Murphy Holloway pulled down 20 in 2010 and is the most in the SEC this season. Saiz the SEC’s active career leader in rebounding leads the league pulling down 10.0 boards a game.
Ole Miss faces No. 20 Creighton in the championship of the Paradise Jam Monday night at 7:30 p.m. in St. Thomas. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
