Houseparty App Sweeps Over The Campus

Houseparty is the new app on the block! The Houseparty app is spreading communication throughout college campuses across the nation. Representatives on multiple college campuses have been running the Instagram handle, which is @houseparty, to spread the news of this new app on their campus. 

What is Houseparty? Houseparty is a new social app made for smartphones. The app allows up to eight people to video chat with each other at a time, so it truly is a “Houseparty.”  Just like any other type of social media, each user has “friends” on their account.  Every user can chat with their friends and even friends of other friends. What is the purpose? The goal of this app is to further communication within technology.  For boys, it may be to “recap last night’s events” said Kimberly Kalb, the director of growth for Houseparty. For girls, it could be vital in making plans. Think about how much easier it would be to have face-to-face communication in making plans as opposed to sending a bunch of group texts. 

“Houseparty has been sweeping college campuses,” Kalb said.  Every college student knows just how overwhelming school can be at times; therefore, a short face-to-face communication at any moment is vital to keeping every college student’s life sane. 

Houseparty swept through our very own campus, The University of Mississippi, with one of their best representatives, Emma Mitchell, during the first week of November.  Mitchell’s job was to come up with creative, over-the-top Instagram posts around the campus and the city of Oxford. Also, part of Mitchell’s job was to get 500 new followers from the Ole Miss campus, and she succeeded.

“All of these college students are using the app because it is necessary for their busy lives,” Kalb said.
