Our Team Our Town Hosts 5th Annual Community Watch Party Tonight
The Ole Miss Rebels take on the Texas A&M Aggies in College Station today, and Our Team Our Town offers a unique environment to watch the game with fellow fans.
Our Team Our Town is an event sponsored by the Young Professionals of Oxford (YPO), a branch of the Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce. It is a community watch party that is open to all fans in and outside Oxford.
The event features an open buffet with food items from more than ten local restaurants, silent auction items, door prizes, cash bar and bottomless beer cups to purchase, as well as the chance to watch the Ole Miss Rebels play with over 200 other fans.
“We wanted to do something more than our monthly socials,” said Nikki Verlangieri, co-president of YPO. “Five years ago we started Our Team Our Town as a way for young professionals to raise money for a charity in the Oxford community.”
Each year, through an application process, YPO chooses an organization to receive the profits from Our Team Our Town. Last year, this event raised over $15,000 for the Oxford Boys and Girls Club.
“All profits go straight to the charity,” Verlangieri said. “We have been very lucky to increase the money raised every year.”
This year all money raised will benefit Family Crisis Services in Oxford. Family Crisis Services provides much-needed assistance and support to children and adults in the aftermath of violent crimes.
“We love this event and try to bring the community together for a fun and social event,” Verlangieri said. “We always focus on keeping the money raised in the community.”
Doors open at 4:30 p.m. for the 6:30 p.m. kickoff. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.
“We appreciate any support and urge people to come out to the event and enjoy,” Verlangieri said.
