SEC Power Rankings: The High Tide Continues to Roll Over the League
Alabama shut out LSU in Baton Rouge as the nearest challengers dropped further behind.
With Florida getting trounced in Fayetteville and Auburn struggling at home to defeat Vanderbilt, it’s pretty much a one team race going forward. And to add a third, Texas A&M’s upset loss to Mississippi State (35-28) humbled all of the upper echelon contenders.
In other games, Georgia won on the road in Lexington 27-24; South Carolina defeated Missouri 31-21. In the two nonconference games Tennessee destroyed Tennessee Tech 55-0 while Ole Miss held on to close out Georgia Southern 37-27.
Alabama’s gap between its number one ranking and the rest of the league has now widened….
This week’s headliner has LSU at Arkansas followed by Auburn at Georgia. Other games feature number one Alabama hosting MSU; Ole Miss traveling to College Station; SC at Florida; Kentucky at Tennessee; and Vanderbilt at Missouri.
Who would have thought back in August that our Rebels would have to defeat either Texas A&M or Vanderbilt on the road to be bowl eligible. Vanderbilt is playing its best football of the season and with our growing injured reserve list, this is becoming more problematic. Even the season home finale against State could now be competitive.
