Possible Ole Miss Starting Quarterback: Who Exactly Is Jason Pellerin?
With Chad Kelly out for the rest of the 2016 season, the question becomes who will step up and replace him? The answer many fans want to hear is 5-star true freshman Shea Patterson, but that seems unlikely with Patterson’s redshirt still in tact with only three games remaining. Hugh Freeze’s comments point to Jason Pellerin begin at the helm for the rest of the way. So who is Jason Pellerin?
A 3-star recruit from New Iberia, Louisiana, Pellerin committed to the Rebels as a part of the 2015 class which happened to be Chad Kelly’s first season in Oxford as well. Pellerin was ranked as ESPN’s 11th best Dual-Threat QB in the 2015 class after completing his high school career. He led New Iberia Catholic High School to an undefeated regular season and an appearance in the LHSAA Division III title game. Pellerin passed and ran for over 1,000 yards with 41 total touchdowns during his senior season. Coming out of high school, Pellerin had offers from other SEC schools but remained committed to the Rebels throughout the recruitment process.
Pellerin is a redshirt freshman and has seen the field on numerous occasions throughout the season. Serving as an element in the Rebel rushing attack, Pellerin has carried the ball 25 times for 96 yards and 3 TDs. In the air, Pellerin has thrown the ball just 13 times, going 5-13 for 2 TDs and 3 INTs. With a week to get ready for Texas A&M, Freeze said that Pellerin will get the majority of first team reps in practice. Freeze must work to expand the set of plays used throughout the season focused around Pellerin’s skill set into a full offensive game-plan.

I am pretty sure that he is a redshirt freshman.
