Ole Miss sophomore, Johnathan Arthur Cleveland was killed in a motorcycle after a collision with a truck around 10 p.m Tuesday night. The Marshall County coroner confirmed Cleveland was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which was at the intersection of HWY 4 W and HWY 7 S. We will continue to update the story as more details are released, but the University’s statement can be read in full below:

The University of Mississippi community is heartbroken over the death of one of our students, Johnathan Cleveland. The university offers its deepest sympathies to Johnathan’s family and friends as well as the many members of the community who knew him.

“We were deeply saddened to hear about Johnathan’s passing,” said Brandi Hephner LaBanc, UM’s vice chancellor for student affairs.  “He was a valued member of our campus community and served in our ROTC program. Please keep Johnathan’s friends, fellow cadets, classmates and family in your thoughts and prayers — this is a very sad time for the Ole Miss family.”

Johnathan died late Tuesday evening as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident near Holly Springs. He was a sophomore criminal justice major from Byhalia, Mississippi.

Details regarding arrangements and services will be shared when they become available. Representatives from the University Counseling Center are available to individuals who would like to talk with someone. For more information about the Counseling Center, visit http://counseling.olemiss.edu/

My deepest sympathy goes out to this family. I know the pain you are going through as I too lost my 15yo son in a car accident. I’m so sorry for your loss and you will be in my prayers. May God Bless your family and give you strength in your time of need.
