Lee Dentistry Sends Candy To The Troops With Your Donations
Yesterday was Halloween, a holiday centered around children eating massive amounts of chocolate and candy. While Halloween may not be a Dentist’s favorite holiday, Lee Dentistry in Oxford has found a way to not only keep kids teeth clean but also support our troops.
Today from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Lee Dentistry, children and parents can drop off any excess candy and receive $1 per pound, up to five pounds of candy. The candy will then be shipped to US troops all around the world as a part of the National Candy Buy Back program that takes donations from dentist offices from around the nation.
Lee Dentistry has been a part of the program since 2012 and has seen the growth of donations each year since they began. Last year, they received about 150 pounds of donated candy to be sent to troops. Donations are mostly candy, but often times cards or letters are included to be shipped to troops.
“This is really a great program. It puts a smile on the face of our troops, gives kids a reason to ditch some of their excess candy with some money to fill their piggy banks, and it allows parents to feel good about their kids parting ways with their candy,” said Corey Ussery of Lee Dentistry.
In addition to the money received for donations, children will also receive a filled goody bag and a toothbrush. Children are not the only ones who donate; Ussery noted that parents who bought candy to hand out who have leftovers and don’t trust themselves with it in the house are welcomed to drop it off and that they are welcomed to take a goody bag, too.
Lee Dentistry will have their scale set up outside this afternoon for donations, so come out and donate your excess candy for the troops! Lee Dentistry is located at 1201 Office Park Dr. in Oxford.
