SEC Power Rankings: Alabama, Auburn Flex Muscles as Balance of League Declines
To borrow a line from the Carpenters, “It’s Yesterday Once More.” The SEC’s dynamic duo from the State of Alabama has clearly taken control of the reins of SEC football. With the Tide smashing undefeated A&M by 19 points, Auburn followed the “two-step” with the total destruction of Arkansas by 53 points! Remember Arkansas? The same team that ran all over Ole Miss a week prior. Not good!
Ole Miss was again crushed, this time in Baton Rouge by a whopping 17 points. Things got worse for a defense in free fall, this time giving up 38 points while the Ole Miss offense was held scoreless in the second half. Concerns are now being raised if this team will even have a winning season. A 6-6 record even looks doubtful.
In other contests, Kentucky held off the Mississippi State Bulldogs 40-38; Missouri fell to Middle Tennessee 51-45; Vanderbilt bested Tennessee State 35-17; and South Carolina squeaked by Massachusetts 34-28. Tennessee, Florida and Georgia were all in a bye week.
The Power Rankings took a major overhaul this week……
This week, the premier game finds Florida and Georgia teeing up. Auburn comes to Oxford; Kentucky is at Missouri; and Tennessee travels to South Carolina. Samford is at MSU and New Mexico State is at A&M. Alabama, LSU, Vanderbilt and Arkansas are all in a bye week.
